Chōchinobake

These ethereal creatures are born from ordinary lanterns that have reached their hundredth year of existence, gaining consciousness and a mischievous personality.

In its folk form the spirit is usually benevolent toward its own human, offering guidance and good fortune, while remaining to everybody else the thing that haunts the night and brings disease and misfortune.

Biwa-bokuboku

During the day, it appears as an ordinary, albeit antique, musical instrument. However, as night falls, the Biwa-bokuboku awakens, revealing its true nature as a conscious, supernatural being.

Morinji-no-okama

By day, it appears as nothing more than an ordinary tea kettle, its bronze surface gleaming innocuously in the light.
